A Report on the Accessibility of BSL Users Access to Covid-19 Government Information

Please read and circulate the attached report by Open Access and Heriot Watt BSL for and funded by the #WhereIsTheInterpreter campaign.

Heriot Watt BSL – Robert Adam

We encourage Government to take urgent steps to provide an on-platform BSL Interpreter at all live national broadcasts to ensure that all initial confusion is avoided, and then to embed BSL clips into its web pages, and ensure that written information is always provided in a means which is understandable to all communities.

To review, assess and document the accessibility of key government coronavirus related communication to the BSL community in England and Wales from publicly available materials.

We are working with Fry Law to challenge the UK Government on the lack of BSL access provided for the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 briefings.

Thank you to DripMedia have offered their time, skills and devotion to our #WTI by translating from English to BSL.

Please see the attached letter which we have sent to the Prime Minister and his office on behalf of a number of signatories.
